Preventive visit is usually confused for the wellness visit when people want to understand Medicare plans. Though the two words are used interchangeably, their meanings are different. The clinic that offers preventative care Langhorne PA has the responsibility of performing Initial Preventive Physical Examination or IPPE. This examination is also commonly known as Welcome to Medicare Visit. It happens once in the life of your cover and must be within the first 12 months of Medicare Part B enrollment.

The aim of this visit is to assess your safety level and functional ability. The physician will discuss your end-of-life plan and use the opportunity to make recommendations for adjustments. The results obtained from the examination will inform the physician to educate, counsel or refer you for more tests. To benefit from the visit, you must be truthful in the information you provide.

Body metrics of height, body mass index and weight will also be measured. The physician takes your blood pressure and other factors that he or she thinks are important in determining your health status. Your family and medical history will be reviewed. You should have an idea of conditions that have affected your children, parents, and people in your bloodline. This review enables the doctor to determine your vulnerability or level of risk.

The physician will take the opportunity to evaluate your mental health position. Some of the issues examined are vulnerability to depression and whether you are at risk. The physician proposes mitigation steps as soon as possible to avoid deterioration. Social history will also be reviewed alongside visual acuity. The level of risk or vulnerability will be guided by your age, gender and family health history. The doctor may order further tests based on what he finds.

Medicare scheme covers this initial visit. Physical exam will be covered as long as the screening tests are gender specific. The cover also includes medication prescribed in case the tests reveal that you need treatment. It must be clear that the screening is aimed at dealing with prevailing conditions and not treatment. Medicare Part B does not cover new conditions discussed with your doctor or diagnosis made.

Immunizations are also covered during the visit. In case you are immunized for MMR or Measles, Mumps and Rubella, Hepatitis A and B as well as flu, you will be covered. The recommendations made must be based on preventing major diseases or conditions. This visit does not cover many of the travel immunization. They include Rabies, Malaria and typhoid, among others.

The screening or tests to be conducted will be informed by your gender, age and general health upon evaluation. For women over 40, mammography screening is free. Colorectal cancer screening is also covered for all adults over 50 years. Screening for blood pressure is also done free of charge and cholesterol screening if you are at the designated risk age. Follow-up screening is not covered under the initial visit.

Preventive visit does not exempt you from making the wellness visits. Wellness visits should be made annually. They are effective in diagnosing health conditions as early as possible to protect them from deteriorating. There are health conditions that can only be treated when diagnosed early. You need regular monitoring and reviews to maintain long term good health.
