Egg Substitute For Vegans That Work Well

by Pamela Barnes

Vegans or vegetarians are people who depend strictly on vegetables and plant foods. They do not take animal products for medical reasons or simply to suit their personal decisions. Some of the foods they exclude from their diets include fish, meat, egg, milk and more. Since they exclude many of these things that are important for a meal, they have to replace them with something else. For example, they should use egg substitute for vegans when baking or doing things that require the use of eggs.

An example is an applesauce. Eggs and applesauce can be used just the same way so when one is not available, the other can serve. Because it does not contain fat, it is equally good for those who do not want to gain weight by taking baked foods. Applesauce does not have plenty of calories in it so it remains among the healthiest choices for vegans.

If you think eggs are the best for binding when baking, you are challenged today to try flaxseed. Flaxseed is a good binder and apart from that, its flavor of nuts makes it preferable for whole grain products. You can find them in the market but you have to be careful to avoid the fake ones.

If what you want is something that tastes like eggs, then go for black salt. The sulfur in a little quantity of black salt can be equivalent to what is found in eggs. It is used especially to bake tofu scrambles, vegan egg salad, and quiches. At first, black salt was not easily found in every supermarket but now, the story has changed and you can also find it online to make an order.

Ripe bananas are also used as a good replacement for eggs. You do not even have to buy much because 1 medium-sized ripe banana can do just the same as an egg would do. This makes it even a cheaper option since eggs are generally more expensive. If you would like to know what using a ripe banana in place of eggs look like, you can have a taste of black bean brownies.

If you want an effective binding agent apart from eggs, then you should try tapioca starch. Its powerful binding nature makes it suitable for making vegan mayonnaise. It does not even require much since the same quantity an egg can do will be taken care of by one teaspoon of the product mixed with three teaspoons of water.

Another mixture to use apart from eggs is baking soda and vinegar. It gives baked products their fluffiness so that they can look big and more attractive. They are also cheaper in the sense that one teaspoon with three teaspoons of water will do the same as one egg.

Choosing replacement for eggs when baking for vegetarians is not a big deal. Generally, the item should be able to raise the mixture, make it taste rich and bind the ingredients together. It should also be affordable, and even more affordable than eggs except you find other options you think are just too good to let go.
